Teatre Condal kicks off its new season with 53 Domingos, a brilliant comedy written and directed by Cesc Gay that portrays, with humour and a great deal of truth, the complexities of family relationships.
The story revolves around three siblings who must reach an agreement on a decision that is as delicate as it is inevitable: what to do about their 86-year-old father, whose behaviour is becoming increasingly unpredictable. What was meant to be a calm and rational family meeting soon turns into a full-blown emotional explosion, bringing hidden secrets, old grievances and years of accumulated tension to the surface.
With the sharp wit and irony that have become the hallmark of the playwright, 53 Domingos offers a lucid and moving reflection on family, ageing, shared responsibility and the bonds that unite us, but can also put us to the test.
The production features an outstanding cast including Julián López, Pepa Charro, Xavi Mira and Candela Serrat, who bring this story of humour, emotion and humanity to life.
The play’s success has extended beyond the stage through its film adaptation, also directed by Cesc Gay, which premiered on Netflix on 27 March 2026, once again confirming the author’s ability to connect with audiences through stories that are both deeply everyday and universally relatable.
