Focus Theatres Shine at Grec 2025 with Large-Scale Premieres, Prestigious Names, and Surprising New Works

Once again, Focus theatres join the Grec Festival of Barcelona with a rich, diverse, and vibrant lineup that reaffirms their commitment to local talent, major international texts, and contemporary creation.

Teatre Romea presents Gegant, the first adaptation in Spain of the theatrical phenomenon that triumphed in the West End and won the Olivier Award for Best Play. Directed by Josep Maria Mestres and written by Mark Rosenblatt, it features a stellar cast: Josep Maria Pou, Victòria Pagès, Pep Planas, Clàudia Benito, Aida Llop, and Jep Barceló.

La Villarroel hosts two highly anticipated productions:

Grand Canyon, by Sergi Pompermayer, is the natural continuation of Amèrica, directed by Pere Arquillué and starring Joan Carreras and Mireia Aixalà, joined on stage by Guillem Balart, Maria Morera, Eduard Buch, and Mar Pawlowsky.

Cartes d’amor, a staged reading of the classic by A.R. Gurney, with dramaturgy by Marc Rosich, directed by Sílvia Munt, and performed by two giants of the stage: Carme Elias and Ramon Madaula.

 

Teatre Goya also presents two powerful productions:

Clavells, by Emma Riverola, a drama of love and politics in times of revolt, directed by Abel Folk and performed by Sílvia Marsó and Abel Folk.
El cuarto de atrás, an adaptation of the novel by Carmen Martín Gaite by María Folguera, directed by Rakel Camacho and starring Emma Suárez, Alberto Iglesias, and Nora Hernández.

Teatre Condal features the most titles in the Grec lineup:

Sardana Superstar, the new musical by Arnau Tordera I, a contemporary celebration of the sardana and cobla.

Tots els nens creixen, a concert version of the new musical set in Barcelona during the 1992 Olympics, with music by Andreu Gallén and a well-known cast led by Ivan Labanda, Mercè Martínez, and Jordi Vidal.

Forever, a production by Kulunka Teatro, awarded at the Max Awards and internationally acclaimed for its poetic language with masks.
