THE THIRD EDITION OF CAP BUTACA BUIDA ARRIVES

18/03/2026

On March 21, the third edition of Cap Butaca Buida will take place, an initiative promoted by Adetca, Time Out and the Corporació Catalana de Mitjans Audiovisuals (CCMA), with the support of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Barcelona City Council, and the provincial councils of Barcelona, Tarragona, Girona and Lleida. The initiative aims to turn Catalonia into the world capital of the performing arts by filling every seat in participating theatres, cultural centres and civic venues.

Focus theatres have joined the initiative with a varied and comprehensive programme. Teatre Romea will host the penultimate performance of Vània, the tour de force by Joel Joan under the direction of Nelson Valente. Teatre Condal will present a double performance of Una idea genial, the comedy by Sébastian Castro directed by Xavier Ricart, which opens this very week at the Paral·lel theatre. Teatre Goya will offer programming throughout the day: Fills, no deu ser tant difícil!, Míriam Tirado’s monologue, will be staged in the morning; Mejor no decirlo, the comedy starring Imanol Arias and María Barranco, will have two sold-out performances; and the day will close with Buenrollistas by Víctor Parrado. Finally, La Villarroel will host a morning performance of Un poyo rojo, the explosive physical theatre show from Argentina, as well as a double performance—also sold out—of Els fills, the play by Lucy Kirkwood directed by David Selvas and starring Mercè Aránega, Jordi Boixaderas and Emma Vilarasau.

A wide-ranging programme for all audiences to celebrate this new edition of our country’s great theatre day.
