Arriska, Nakatomi, Focus, La Charito and Filmax are pleased to announce that “ESCAPE ROOM 2” will be released in cinemas on October 9. The major theatrical hit makes the leap to the big screen with a cast led by Joel Joan, Mònica Pérez, Paula Vives and Iván Massagué, under the direction of Hèctor Claramunt.
An International Theatrical Phenomenon
Since the first instalment premiered on Catalan stages in 2018, “Escape Room” has become a true theatrical phenomenon, enjoying successful adaptations and runs in several countries around the world. Its film version became the second highest-grossing Catalan-language film of 2022. In the summer of 2023, the movie reached No. 2 in Netflix Spain’s Top 10 most-watched films, bringing a comedy filmed in Catalan to new audiences.
In addition, the film has been an international sales success, reaching audiences in more than 20 countries. Its success was also reflected on television: when it premiered on TV3 in October 2022, it led its time slot with 338,000 viewers and a 19.5% audience share.

“ESCAPE ROOM 2” continues a phenomenon that began on stage and has since connected with audiences through cinemas, television and streaming platforms. The blend of comedy, suspense and secrets among friends has transformed the universe created by Hèctor Claramunt and Joel Joan into a Catalan franchise with a reach far beyond the theatre and growing international appeal.
“ESCAPE ROOM 2” embraces visual spectacle and entertainment, aiming to offer audiences a type of cinema rarely seen in Catalonia: a combination of adventure film, thriller and comedy that can be enjoyed by the whole family.
Synopsis
Five years later, Edu, Marina, Viky and Rai mysteriously cross paths again at a trendy new venue perched atop Montjuïc hill, where the former amusement park once stood. It soon becomes clear that the establishment is not what it seems. Before long, they find themselves trapped in a buried attraction, a haunted tunnel that had long been forgotten. There, a countdown timer appears alongside a threatening message that feels disturbingly familiar: they have 60 minutes to escape, or they will die.
“ESCAPE ROOM 2” is a production by Arriska, Nakatomi, Focus and La Charito, with the participation of 3Cat and RTVE, and the support of the Catalan Institute for Cultural Companies (ICEC). Filmax will release the film in cinemas on October 9.
