A radically irreverent comedy about the moral corruption of society

The bootby Joe Orton is a dark and corrosive comedy that begins with the death of Mrs. McLeavy. Her son Hal and his friend Dennis, perpetrators of a bank robbery, decide to hide the loot inside the deceased's coffin. To do this, they remove the corpse and hide it in a closet, triggering a series of increasingly absurd mistakes.

Around him gravitate Mr. McLeavy, a naive and devout Catholic; Nurse Fay, an opportunistic widow obsessed with money; and Inspector Truscott, a corrupt police officer who investigates both the robbery and the suspicious circumstances of the death. With fierce humor and an irreverent spirit, Orton creates a devastating satire on moral hypocrisy, religion, family, and the corruption of institutions.
