FOCUS – Technical Direction of the 72nd Mérida International Classical Theatre Festival 2026

03/07/2026

Classics of the past, emotions of the present

From 3 July to 30 August, Mérida once again becomes the capital of classical theatre with a new edition of the Mérida International Classical Theatre Festival, which celebrates its 72nd edition in 2026.

Focus is responsible for the Festival’s technical production management, bringing to the project more than four decades of experience in the planning and delivery of major cultural and performing arts events.

Focus’s involvement encompasses the planning, coordination and supervision of all the technical resources required to make the Festival possible, ensuring the smooth operation of infrastructure, stage equipment, lighting systems, sound, stage machinery, audiovisual elements and production logistics. This highly complex undertaking requires the integration of numerous technical and operational teams, as well as the ability to adapt continuously to the unique demands of a large-scale event.

Delivering this work within a heritage site as significant as the Roman Theatre of Mérida—one of Europe’s most iconic historic performance venues— lso presents an exceptional technical challenge. Every intervention must combine the highest standards of contemporary stage production with the utmost respect for a unique archaeological site, ensuring both the preservation of its heritage and the best possible experience for artists and audiences alike.

Focus’s extensive experience in the management of theatres, festivals and large-scale productions enables the company to provide the Mérida Festival with a robust, efficient and safe technical structure, capable of meeting the requirements of a programme that brings together major premieres, national and international companies, and some of the most prominent names on today’s stage.
