MORNING SUN – A moving story about the lives of three women, with New York City as its backdrop, comes to La Villarroel

06/10/2026

Morning Sun, by Simon Stephens, directed by Pau Roca and starring Míriam Iscla, Anna Güell, and Raquel Ferri, will be presented at La Villarroel from October 9. Produced by Sixto Paz and La Villarroel, the play is a deeply human portrait of the passing of time, life in the city, and the complexities of family relationships. It shines a light on the invisibility experienced by women in a society that gradually stops noticing them as they grow older.

The play takes its title from Hopper’s celebrated painting, whose artist captured urban loneliness in America like few others.

Morning Sun is, above all, a celebration of the extraordinary journey of being an “ordinary” woman.

Synopsis

Life passes. Love endures.

“I’ve become a little invisible. Nobody looks at me. Not like they used to. You reach a certain age, and people stop looking at you. They stop noticing you.”

The city is alive. Joni Mitchell sings, friends and lovers come and go, and the regulars at the neighborhood bar change over time. As the years pass, a woman’s life unfolds in all its complexity and mystery in this compelling play about mothers and daughters, beginnings and endings, set in New York City.

Morning Sun presents three women, three lives that unfold with their joys and sorrows, their triumphs and failures.
