EL RETRAT DE DORIAN GRAY – A Unique Version of the Classic at the GREC

05/05/2026

Teatre Romea’s proposal for this year’s GREC is The Picture of Dorian Gray. Àngels Gonyalons stars in this adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s indispensable classic, adapted and directed by Marc Rosich. An original production with live music by Jordi Cornudella that brings us closer to the dark and controversial story of the accursed libertine. The cast is completed by Jordi Vidal, Pau Oliver, Pol Blancafort, and the Leos Quintet.

Synopsis

Àngels Gonyalons embodies Oscar Wilde to address a world still obsessed with youth and image.

“For just as the gods, one day,
gave you beauty,
so too the gods, one day,
can take that beauty away…
(and turn it into dust,
and turn it into ashes).”

Àngels Gonyalons steps into the skin of Oscar Wilde to defend The Picture of Dorian Gray against the attacks of the critics of his time, and it is through her voice that we encounter all the characters of the controversial novel. She is Dorian, the young man who envies the beauty of his own portrait and makes a pact with the devil to preserve his youth forever. She is Basil Hallward, the painter of the controversial portrait. She is Sybil Vane, the young actress with whom Dorian falls in love. But above all, she is Lord Henry, the depraved dandy who accompanies Dorian on his descent into hell, while his portrait undergoes a monstrous transformation. The cult of youth and the narcissistic individualism at the heart of the play resonate powerfully today in a world like ours, governed by aesthetics and obsessed with the latest novelty.

With dramaturgy and direction by Marc Rosich, and original music by Jordi Cornudella, the production is a true tour de force for the actress. Supported by a male vocal trio and accompanied by a string quintet, the proposal allows text and music to join hands in a delicate chamber piece.
