PALABRA DE PERRO – Juan Mayorga Adapts Cervantes at Teatre Romea

21/10/2026

On 28 October, Teatre Romea welcomes Palabra de perro, a theatrical work written by Juan Mayorga, one of the most acclaimed contemporary European playwrights, based on Miguel de Cervantes’ El coloquio de los perros. Directed by Rakel Camacho, the production brings back Cipión and Berganza, the two Cervantine dogs who are mysteriously granted the gift of speech, to offer a lucid, ironic and deeply insightful reflection on the human condition.

In this adaptation, Mayorga turns the two animals into privileged observers of the world around them. Through their conversations, Cipión and Berganza examine human behaviour, contradictions and weaknesses, questioning concepts such as truth, justice, deceit and morality. With wit and intelligence, the playwright creates a piece that engages with Cervantes’ classic text through a distinctly contemporary sensibility.

The production stars Cecilia Solaguren as Cipión, Jimmy Castro as Berganza, and Jorge Kent in multiple roles.
