Àngels Gonyalons plays Oscar Wilde to challenge a world still obsessed with youth and image.
¿Just like the gods, one day,
They gave you beauty,
just like the gods, one day,
beauty can be taken away from you...
(and turn it into dust,
and turn it into ash.)
Àngels Gonyalons puts himself in the shoes of Oscar Wilde to defendThe Portrait of Dorian Grayfrom the attacks of the critics of his time, and it is through his voice that we see all the characters of the controversial novel. She is Dorian, the young man who is envious of the beauty of his own portrait and makes a pact with the devil to preserve his youth forever. This is Basil Hayward, the painter of the controversial portrait. This is Sibyl Vane, the young actress with whom Dorian falls in love. But, above all, she is Lord Henry, the depraved dandy who accompanies Dorian on his descent into hell, while his portrait is monstrously transformed. The cult of youth and narcissistic individualism that are at the heart of the piece resonate today, in a world like ours, governed by aesthetics and obsessed with the latest novelty.
With dramaturgy and directionMarc Rosich, and original music byJordi Cornudella, the work is a wholetour de forcefor the actress. Supported by a male vocal trio and the accompaniment of a string quintet, the proposal makes text and music come together in a delicate chamber piece.
