Is lying the key to maintaining the illusion?
Mònica, Ramon and their five-year-old son, Martí, have travelled to Finland to spend the Christmas holidays with Mònica’s sister, Núria, her Finnish partner and their daughter, Aina, who is four years old. Little Martí is very excited, in Finland he will be able to see the real Santa Claus.
The evening between two families seems idyllic, a little house in the middle of snowy fir trees, a fireplace, sleighs at the door, a peaceful family environment… But everything goes wrong when Aina explains to Martí that Santa Claus does not exist, that he is a character that adults invented long ago to coerce children into getting along.
It is true that it is impossible for a single man to give out presents to all the children in the world in a single night. Martí is very upset, but his parents are even more upset. For Mònica and Ramon, keeping their son’s hopes alive is one of the most important things about Christmas.
From this point on, the two couples contrast two completely opposite ways of raising their children, debating about truth and lies, traditions, family values, and inevitably secrets from the past that no one wanted to unearth come to light.
