vania al teatre romea

Joel Joan stars in this monologue directed by Nelson Valente, revisiting Chekhov’s classic.

Vania is a reimagining of Anton Chekhov’s masterful play Uncle Vanya (1897), presented in a monologue format. Simon Stephens offers a contemporary reinterpretation of Chekhov’s text, set in the present day and outside the context of Tsarist Russia.

Vania is a mosaic of different characters bound to a country estate far from the big city, where eight people spend what is likely to be their last summer there.
As with other Chekhovian classics, what truly matters is not the plot or storyline, but the inner life of the characters—their emotiona
