On April 30th, the programme for this year’s Grec Festival of Barcelona 2025 was unveiled, and as in every edition, Focus theatres will take part with a range of outstanding productions.
The Teatre Romea will host the premiere of Gegant, a play by Mark Rosenblatt, directed by Josep Maria Mestres and starring Josep Maria Pou, Victòria Pagès, Xavier Ricart, Clàudia Benito, Aida Llop and Enric Arquimbau. Gegant is the first adaptation of this season’s West End hit, winner of several awards including the Olivier Award for Best Play.
La Villarroel presents two productions:
Grand Canyon, the second of Sergi Pompermayer’s American stories, following the success of Amèrica. It is directed by Pere Arquillué and stars Joan Carreras, Mireia Aixalà, Guillem Balart, Mireia Morera, Eduard Buch and Mar Pawlowski.
Cartes d’amor, a staged reading of the text by Albert Ramsdell Gurney Jr., a Pulitzer Prize finalist, with dramaturgy by Marc Rosich, directed by Sílvia Munt and performed by Carme Elias and Ramon Madaula.
Teatre Goya also presents two productions:
Clavells, a story of love and politics set against the backdrop of the Carnation Revolution, written by Emma Riverola, directed by Abel Folk and starring Abel Folk and Sílvia Marsó.
El cuarto de atrás, an adaptation by María Folguera of the novel by Carmen Martín Gaite, commemorating the centenary of the author’s birth. The play is directed by Rakel Camacho and stars Emma Suárez, Alberto Iglesias and Nora Hernández.
Finally, Teatre Condal presents three productions:
Sardana Superstar, the new sardana-themed musical by Arnau Tordera I, built around the sardana genre and traditional cobla music.
Tots els nens creixen, a concert premiere of the new Catalan musical that revives the spirit of 1992 Barcelona. With music and artistic direction by Andreu Gallén, lyrics by David Pintó, text by Martí Gallén, and performances by Ivan Labanda, Jordi Vidal, Mercè Martínez, Berta Rabascall, Lluís Rubio and Ivan Clemente.
Forever, a mask theatre production that won the awards for Best Playwriting and Best Direction at the latest Premis Max. The play bears the hallmark of Kulunka Teatro, creators of André & Dorine and Solitudes, among others.
